Your photos and files. Only yours.
Silo is a private vault for iPhone and Android. Everything is encrypted on your phone, and nobody else can read it.
- No account
- Encrypted on your phone
- No ads
How it works
- 1
Set up
Create a PIN and write down your recovery phrase. That phrase is the only way back in if you forget your PIN.
- 2
Add your files
Import photos, videos and files. Silo encrypts each one and checks it before you remove the original.
- 3
Lock
Lock the vault when you are done. Silo clears its keys from memory, so it stays closed until your PIN opens it.
Everything you need to keep things private
Plain tools that do their job and stay out of the way.
Photos and videos
Import from your photo library. Each one is encrypted before it is stored in the vault.
Verified import
Every import is read back and checked first. The original can only be removed once the copy is proven.
Files of any kind
PDFs, documents, zips and more sit beside your photos. Included with Pro.
Albums and favorites
Sort what you keep into albums, and star the ones you open most.
Deleted items
Deleted items wait in a bin, then clear out on their own. You can restore them until then.
Export everything
Save or share a single item, or export the whole vault whenever you like.
Auto-lock and privacy
Choose when Silo locks. It covers its view in the app switcher and can block screenshots.
Vault health check
Run a check that reads your items back and tells you plainly if anything needs attention.
PIN, phrase and unlock
A PIN of 6 or more digits, a recovery phrase, and optional face or fingerprint unlock. Pro adds a passphrase.
Arriving with launch
Backup to your own cloud
An encrypted copy goes to cloud storage you already use. We never hold it.
Restore on a new phone
Bring your vault back with your recovery phrase.
Alternative vaults
A different PIN opens a separate vault that appears nowhere else.
Emergency PIN
Wipes the vault on this phone. Your cloud backup stays safe.
These are part of Pro and are still being finished.
Private by design
Your files are locked on your phone, with keys only you can open.
Encrypted before it is stored
Silo locks each file on your phone first. Nothing readable is ever saved.
Nothing unlocked is written to disk
Photos and videos are shown straight from memory, so no open copy is left behind.
Locking clears the keys
When the vault locks, Silo wipes its keys and caches from memory.
No account, no server
There is no sign-up and no server holding your files. We could not read them if we tried.
- Encryption
- XChaCha20-Poly1305, 256-bit keys
- PIN to key

- Recovery phrase
- 12 words
Silo's file format is fully documented. We'll publish it with a free tool that reads your vault without Silo.
What Silo doesn't do
- It cannot recover a lost recovery phrase. If you lose your PIN and your phrase, the vault stays closed.
- It does not protect a phone that is already compromised by spyware.
- It is not a cloud service. Your vault lives on your phone, and a backup lives in cloud storage you choose.
Nothing gets lost
Moving your photos in should never be a leap of faith.
- Verified
Checked before it counts
Silo reads every import back and compares it. Only then can you remove the original.
- Verified
Take it all with you
Export everything whenever you want. Your files are never held hostage.
- Verified
Nothing locked away
If a plan ends, you can still view, export and delete everything. Only adding more past the free limits stops.
Free to start. Pro when you need more.
If a plan ends, everything you stored stays yours to view, export and delete.

Questions
Is Silo free?
Yes. Free holds up to 100 photos and 10 videos, with verified import, albums and export. Pro removes the limits and adds files and a passphrase.
What happens if I forget my PIN?
Use your recovery phrase on the lock screen to get back in, then set a new PIN. Keep the phrase somewhere safe, away from your phone.
What if I lose my recovery phrase?
Silo cannot recover it for you. While your vault is open, you can create a new phrase in Settings, so do it before you are locked out.
Can you see my photos?
No. Your files are encrypted on your phone, and there is no server holding them. We have no key and no copy.
Does Silo need an account?
No. There is no sign-up and no email. You only need a PIN and your recovery phrase.
What happens to my photos if I delete the app?
The vault lives on your phone, so deleting the app removes it for good. Export anything you want to keep first. Once backup arrives, an encrypted copy in your own cloud storage can be restored with your recovery phrase.
Does it work on iPhone and Android?
Yes. Silo is being built for both, and it is coming soon. Android 11 or newer is needed on Android.
What happens when my subscription ends?
Nothing is locked away. You can still view, export and delete everything. Only adding past the free limits stops.
Where are backups stored?
In cloud storage you already use, encrypted on your phone first. Silo has no access to it. Backup is arriving with launch.
Keep it private. Keep it yours.
Coming soon to iPhone and Android.
